Singapore Airlines (ICAO-SIA, IATA-SQ) is the flag carrier airline based in
Singapore. The main hub of the airline is located in Singapore Changi -
The airline has some successful feat of achieving titles such as world’s best airline
by Skytrax four times and topped Travel and Leisure’s best airline rankings for
more than 20 years. The airline is also notable for using the Singapore Girl as
its central figure in corporate branding.
Numbers of airlines-related subsidiaries are included in the Singapore Airlines.
For example, SIA Engineering Company would handle work services related to
maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) business across nine different
countries having a portfolio of 27 joint ventures including Boeing and
Rolls-Royce. The services of SIA’s freighter fleet and cargo-hold capacity in
SIA’s pass aircraft are operated by Singapore Airlines Cargo. The following are
two subsidiaries: SilkAir and Scoot, the former operates regional flights to
secondary cities while the later operates as a low cost carrier.
The genesis of the airline began with the incorporation of Malayan Airways
Limited (MAL) on May 1st 1947, with the support of the Ocean Steamship
Company of Liverpool. The airline’s first chartered flight was considered to be
operated from the British Straits Settlement of Singapore to Kuala Lumpur on
2st April 1947, utilizing an Airspeed Consul Twin-engined Aircraft. The
expansion of the airline continued during the rest of 1940s and 1950s, as in par
with other commonwealth airlines such as Qantas Empire Airways providing
technical assistance as well as assistance in joining IATA.
In 2004, SQ began its operation of non-stop trans-pacific flights from
Singapore to Los Angeles and Newark, utilising the Airbus A340-500. These
flights marks the first non-stop air services between Singapore and USA. The
Singapore airline also phases out the last 747 in its fleet after 40 years of service
in April 2012.
The airline made an announcement stating that it will end its direct flights from
Singapore to both Newark and Los Angeles from 23 November 2013 and 20
October 2013, respectively. The flight to Newark was considered to be the
longest flights in the world.
The flights began on 11 October 2018, with regular daily commercially
scheduled flights starting from 18 October 2018.
The majority of the stoke shares is owned by the government of Singapore
investment and holding company, Temasek Holdings which held over 56% of
the voting stoke as of 2012.
The Airline is headquatered at Airline House, an old hanger at Changi
International Airport in Singapore.
Singapore Airline flies to 62 destinations in 32 countries on five continents
from its primary hub in Singapore which includes USA, Australia, UAE,
Thailand, Malaysia etc.

Which in total comes to 137 aircraft as of 20 February. Also notable cargo
aircraft includes seven Boeing 747-400.
In order to save time and avoid long queues in the airport, passengers can
check-in online 2-42 hours before the time of flight departure, select a seat and
either get a 2D barcode for the boarding pass. The boarding pass can be printed
when boarding though the eligible airports or can also be collected from the
check-in counters. If one is travelling with checked baggage, they are required
to arrive at the airport 2.5 hours before the flight departure time. The boarding
gate will be closed 10 minutes before the departure time.
Singapore airline separated their baggage policy and fees into two categories:
By weight and by piece. The airline calculates the excess weight per kgs and
one hefty fee for an overweight baggage.

2. Business and first class: 2 free bags up to 15 pounds (7kg) each.

The weight of the carry-on bag should not exceed 15.4 pounds (6kg) in addition
to 15.4 pounds (7kg) free cabin baggage allowance. The stroller would be
counted towards the carry-on allowance only.

Overweight and oversize charges are applicable on an additional piece of
check-in baggage. Overweight charge can be paid online prior 48 hours before
the departure of flight using Singapore Airlines application from the mobile
phone which is downloadable.
The airlines allows the carrying on pet on board as check-in baggage however,
the pet should be at least 3 months of age. If the combine weight of the pet and
its container (kennel) exceed the size of 32 kgs it will have to be travelled as a
cargo. If one is travelling with the pet, they must inform the Singapore Airline 2
weeks before the departure of the flights.To ensure a stress-free journey, a
passenger travelling with the pet must check-in at least 2 hours before the flight.
The airline also needs the following document to be produced st the time of
travel by the passenger:
1. Export/import/transshipment permit from the
departing/destination/transit's country authority.
2. Value health and rabies vaccination certificate.
3. Any additional documents that may be required by the departing/destination
/ transit authorities.

2. Must be well ventilated with wet absorbent underneath.
3. Come with food and water containers.
4. Must be properly secured.
The pet and container will not be counted as part of free check-in baggage.
They are considered as additional baggage and comes with an additional charge.
Pre-paid and the discounted rate will be applicable for pet carriage.
Singapore airline allows the pregnant passenger to travel until 36 weeks
of pregnancy. If the passenger is between 29-36 weeks of pregnancy, a
medical certificate stating a fit to travel is required, which will be needed
during the time of check-in.
